Solar Eclipse Day

On August 21st, CMS students had the opportunity to catch an event that has been rarely seen for several years. Students caught their glimpse of a solar eclipse, equipped with the solar glasses provided by Drug Free Tipton. The event was awesome. Many students were very excited to see the eclipse occur. Mr. Mooney has heard that another one is forecasted for 2024 and it may even make the area more dark than it did today. Click the Here link above to see photos from today's eclipse.

Mr. Elinor's Class

tests their Hypothesis

Mr. John Elinor’s science class at Crestview Middle School has been learning about the scientific method. One of the steps to the scientific method is to form a hypothesis before experimenting. The students had to think about the problem and make a prediction as to what would happen during the experiment to test that hypothesis. Mr. Elinor's students conducted an experiment on how much space an object could occupy at any given time using a simple copper penny and water. The objects in this case were the water and the penny's surface with the amount of space present. The students were to solve the problem of how many drops of water it would take to fill the surface of a penny until the penny could hold no more water. The students used water, a dropper, and a penny for the experiment. The students conducted their experiment. Based on some of the students’ conclusions, more than 100 drops of water occupied the surface of the copper penny when the experiment was completed.
